I’m the same. I have extremely poor anaerobic contribution. I went into it a bit deeper on this thread: [I’m finding the vo2max sessions not that hard and the sweet spot so hard](https://www.trainerroad.com/forum/t/i-m-finding-the-vo2max-sessions-not-that-hard-and-the-sweet-spot-so-hard/105225)

I’ve never been able to do 5x5 minutes at 120%, which a lot of riders can actually get to. I under test severely on ramp tests, and my threshold is closer to 97-98% of my 20 minute power than the often touted 95%. As a competitive powerlifter, I my repetition maxes would always outshine my one rep maxes. With a 300kg 1RM deadlift, I could do 10 reps at 260kg. For any athlete not cursed with the insane slow twitch genetics I have, a 10RM at 260kg would indicate a 1RM closer to 340-350kg, not 300kg. In other words, I understand where you’re coming from, I’m the same.

However, with all that said, poor genetics or not, if you cannot do 2 minutes at 120% of FTP, your FTP is set too high. Everyone has some anaerobic contribution, and during efforts that short, even the phosphagen system is able to help out. I’m not saying everyone should be able to do 8x2 minutes at 120% right away after a bump in FTP, but if you can’t even get through one 2 minute effort, your FTP ain’t set right. Also, consider that you may be hindering yourself from completing those efforts by thinking you can’t. Sounds a bit woo woo, but as I alluded to with the 60 minute effort, trusting that you can hold onto the pain and keep pushing is a massive factor that relates only to your psychology.
