Extending the duration (outside)

I have a 1h:30m 7.4 threshold today. It’s outside, and the route will be 2h:30m

If I select alternate at 2h:30m I am suggested a 5:4

The 1h:30m is 4x15 intervals at 90-105%
The 2h:30m is 3x12 intervals at 90%-105%

Do I:

  1. Fit the prescribed 1h:30m 7.4 workout into my 2h:30m ride?
  2. Click Alternative, change duration and accept the 2h:30m 5.4 Threshold suggestion?

I wouldn’t cheat my key session by downgrading it to an easier workout. You can always build out your key workout with zone 2 the rest of the ride. I do this fairly routinely. You’ll take on some extra fatigue. But if you have the next day or two for easier rides, you’ll be fine

Do your original 1h30m session then ride Z2 for the rest of the time would be my suggestion.

Yes, that is my inclination, however, is the alternative taking into account overall effort to stay consistent with plan?

It might be but other than RLGL though there’s no detailed analysis of outdoors rides though so ticking either as complete will I think keep you on plan. RLGL will keep you on target if you overreach only. I think they have talked about the subject of extending outdoors rides on podcasts and recommended Z2.

Yea, many factors… RLGL was yellow, and adaptive training was trying to change to endurance…

Ended up squeezing out 4x12m Thresholds with 8min break between. But as outside I find it hard to drop below high Z2 between intervals

Surprisingly (without trying) I achieved a a new 60min Power PR

(Maybe it was the caffeine)
