CTL Check! May/2024

The bottom line is, lots of volume?

Also, as you train more (and if you specifically train this type of work) you can do the same endurance rides at a higher percentage of FTP, which equates to higher TSS and CTL. If I was just doing 15 hours of endurance, doing it at 70% instead of 60% would be a difference of almost 200 TSS per week.

Haven’t thought about this really, and it’s true.

Season just ended for me. This year fluctuated between ~100 and ~80 ctl, with a high of 102 (back in September… whoops) and a low of 76 (just before my target race of the year this weekend… also whoops). Hopefully this coming year I will time things better.

CTL of 115 with 144 fatigue after last weekend.
Had a rest day yesterday, today the final week with over 1100 TSS and over 21h starts.

Next week Sunday (12/05) I have my first Gran Fondo and second race of the year.
Starting to feel really strong, doing 3 interval training sessions a week (mostly around threshold, varying length).

Getting there

My knee tendons would no longer exist at -66% TSB.

Build phase done today, recovery week starts now, then TTE and volume focus for me. Just hit an all time high CTL for me with 14 weeks to go until Leadville.

I just wrapped up an overload week at the end of build. Hit an all-time high CTL of 130. Feeling surprisingly good, not run down. The final 2 days were a stage race and I hit power PR on Saturday’s stage (.82 IF for almost 6 hours). Feeling like I can make power forever right now, hope this holds until Unbound.

Getting there, “A” race just 5 weeks away!

I’m coming in with a CTL in the low 60s. No specific A races, just outdoor riding season. Last year, my CTL was in the high 40s/low 50s at this time in the year. It was also a qualitatively different CTL - this year, I’m coming in with about the same FTP but a lot longer time to exhaustion. My 5 min power is about 15W higher than last year. It feels like a really hard won 15W, but in absolute terms it’s maybe just outside the likely margin of error. I don’t have any comparable 1 min power from last year because I wasn’t using an outdoor PM.

Back from an off the bike vacation in Portugal, had made it to 58-59 for the last few weeks before leaving, a bit of a set back to work back from to get >60.

Getting there. Unbound in less than 3 weeks!

I was feeling pretty good about my CTL of 86 and then I saw some of the charts people were posting here  Starting to ramp up a bit for VT Grand Fondo at the end of June. I need all the help I can get on those climbs and hoping some smart planning and CTL ~100 might get me there. I’ve been around 10 hrs per week through April and just did 2 weeks at 15 hrs and >700 TSS. Bit of rest this week then onward and upward

Here’s some more comparison if you need a weekly TSS goal to target! :upside_down_face:
