Starting 15h-20h weeks comprising of:
12h-15h Bike
1h-2h Lifting
2h-5h SKIMO
Did a big 2 week block. 17h including skimo and weights. Got CTL up to 76…… but now Thanksgiving traveling hits.
Still holding >100 since 25 Oct and still aiming to keep it over 100 until the end of January
Weather hasn’t been on my side: I didn’t do my outdoor endurance ride last week, so lost about 60TSS from that. Hoping to get one in this week though.
Thanksgiving holiday trip set me back a bit. Still on pace for 500h this year, finishing (hopefully) with a 78-85 CTL, which will be 20-30 pts higher than usual.
My all time CTL maximum is at 78. Right now I am at 67, it’s been consistently in the 60-75 range.
Its been a year of getting back to fitness for me after a hip replacement in January. So starting with a fitness score of 1
Mmmm. This strange, something doesn’t add up. Maybe your set FTP is too high relative to the actual power in your rides?
My ftp of 360 is set from a long form test (Kolie style). I also just did 2h of sweetspot at 327w, so my TTE is good. If anything, my ftp is probably a bit higher now that I have been doing vo2max work. So that would make ctl even lower.
It’s just that I do endurance training “too easy” for these models, these days usually at around 200-215W or an IF of 55-59. It works for me, I progress well, and I know I could not do endurance riding any harder or I would burn out.
100%…my first reaction was the same as yours - something is off with FTP. At those hours and with that weekly structure, @visa.k visa should be ~100 CTL.
Here’s a couple recent training weeks.
I think you missed our point… if your FTP is set incorrectly, then your resulting TSS and CTL numbers are flawed. So it would make sense then that you have never hit 700 TSS in a week.
It is indeed the results that matter.
Are you training for anything in particular?
I don’t think your FTP is set incorrectly.
I would be surprised if you aren’t capable of riding Sundays.
Whether you want to, or not, is another matter of course.
Well, considering that I clearly said that I have tested my FTP with a long form Kolie Moore test, then I don’t know why it would be inaccurate. Last winter I first tested 340W for 40min, then after vo2max work I worked up to 60 min at 350W, and then this fall I did 360W for 40min. Now I am doing vo2max work and expect my FTP to rise to 370-375W afterwards. This would only lower my TSS and CTL, not raise it.
@ivegotabike Indeed! I have raced amateur road races for a couple seasons now. I am incapable of riding sundays as we have a one-year old at home and my wife and I are very set on having one day a week totally off to keep us all sane.
I was 105-110 in October, now after a nice long break in November I’m down in the 60’s. Time to build it back up for the spring.
CTL of 55 right now, which is about as high as it has been for the whole of 2024. Hit similar range a few times over the year but lots of homeowner / husband / father stuff got in the way of my cycling love affair! I’ve recently been doing 1hr lunch ride and 30mins before bed to eek in more heart beats. Has been working pretty well to get about 60 TSS a day from basic endurance stuff with the occasional workout thrown in. Kinda a grind but I’ve keep it up for the last 6 weeks or so Monday through Friday with weekends off. Works pretty well since it’s winter and weather sucks anyhow
Still hovering around 75. I see no reason why I can’t reach 100-120 by May. I’m training around 15-17h week including SKIMO and lifting.
