Please don’t highjack the thread into a vaccine debate. Everyone already has their opinions about them and posting your opinion isn’t going to change anyone’s mind so please keep it to yourself.
Got my first shot Monday morning (hospital employee in the US). My thoughts fall in line with yours. I decided to just take it easy workout wise for the 48-ish hours following the vaccine to let the body just do it’s thing. Plus swapping a couple harder workouts for a some easier ones (especially this time of year) isn’t going to make a big difference. Especially is there is a theoretical payoff of my body having a better response to the vaccine
Monday: my normal rest day
Tuesday morning: swim, didn’t push it too hard
Tuesday evening: swapped Berryessa for Pettit
Wednesday morning: zone 2 run
Thursday: back to normal planned workouts
36 hours from the shot and I’ve had no real issues. I think I was maybe starting to run a little warm a few hours after, but that only lasted for a couple hours and didn’t turn to a full on fever. I had a little bit of a headache about that time as well. But it I was a bit dehydrated as well, so that may have been part of it. A little tired yesterday and today, but I have a 1 year old, so I’m always a bit tired. The only thing I can attribute for sure is that my arm is a bit sore (similar to past flu vaccinations).
Looking forward increased vaccine availability so everyone has an opportunity to get it and we can move past this pandemic!
Covid vaccine isn’t available in Germany right now and won’t be for my age group for the next months, however, I recently got the flu shot. I worked out regularly on the day before the flu shot with some Sweetspot work. The day of the flu shot and the next I didn’t do any workouts, the third some light Z2 outdoor ride. The next day I continued training as normal. This is what I’ll do with the Covid shots, too.
I rather give my body enough time to get the most out of the vaccination than risk compromising it. Missing 1 or 2 workouts won’t make or break my training plan, getting the flu or covid will.
ER doc here. Got my vaccine 3 days ago. I had a bit of arm soreness, maybe just a bit more than when I get a flu shot, but nothing I would have even taken a tylenol for. No problems training. I know a bunch of people who’ve gotten one at this point and the worst side effect I’ve heard of is one of our nurse practitioners had about 8hrs of fever. A few people have had some mild body aches. I know that it’s anecdata, but I though I’d add experience.
Same here. I got mine yesterday. Arm is a little tender - same as a flu shot. No other symptoms and I was able to train this morning without challenges.
Received the first Pfizer shot last week and besides a sore arm on par with the flu shot had no notable reactions (or dip in endurance/power in workouts for that matter)
So glad I found this thread! Getting my Moderna vaccine this evening with the second one scheduled for Feb 2. Currently on the second week of Sweet Spot Base Low Volume II. Thinking I will push everything back a week to rest and make sure the body is good to go before starting back up. I will update this post as well after a few days!
Second dose of Pfizer this morning. My arm seems less sore than first dose. This afternoon I did taylor ( 30 sec repeats at 120%) then zwift race felt good.
Update
Developed chills all night with low grade fever. Definitely not riding today. Hopefully will subside soon my sore arm is subsiding so I think that’s a good sign
Got second dose on Monday. Felt decent, no specific issues, just kinda tired. Decided to give my workout a go (Jacks +1 outdoors). Crashed and burned hard after slam-dunking similar workouts twice last week. Planning to take the rest of the week off and start back again next week.
Good to know. Got my first dose this morning. Have a SS Workout on the schedule tomorrow. Planning on being somewhat gentle with myself for the next day or so. Second dose in three weeks. Thanks for the info.
Definitely smart to plan the vaccine around rest weeks. I received the Moderna vaccine and had significant side effects with arm pain, fever, malaise, body aches, chills, etc that occured about 24 hours after injection and lasted for about 24 hours. So basically a 3 day ordeal.
Not everyone responds the same way. There were three others that I work with that had it at the same day and time and had minimal side effects. Rest is key to allow the body to do its work and create antibodies.
