Correctly adding an overnight-drive to the calendar

Hi there,

I just finished my 400 km Brevet which had an evening start so we rode off at 8.00 p.m. I took a total riding time of ~18 hours, and am wondering how I have to put this in my calendar correctly. As I cannot move past rides, at the moment it is doubled because I put it in as a stage race.

However, when marking the 2nd stage as completed I get an additional ~300 TSS. I believe I need 2 rest days, and since I finished on saturday those should be on sunday and monday, I just don’t want so screw with my AiFTP.

Any advice here would be really appreciated.

TLDR: 2 day race, TSS has to be split on two days, how to?

@TrainerRoad staff: Feel free to make any edits needed or share details.

I’d just delete the placeholder rather than mark it as complete.

Agree but then the ride is noted in the calendar as a saturday ride, while the majority of it took place on sunday. I don’t think I can associate it with the sunday placeholder. I think ideally I’d want the event to be moved to saturday, so I get appropriate rest.

AFAIK (and this is what I’ve been doing) unless it’s a structured workout, there is no reason to associate a ride with an activity in the calendar. I figure AI looks at the data from that activity to make adaptations going forward and it doesn’t matter what the nature of or reason for that activity was. I can delete any undone workouts or activities from the calendar, or simply leave them undone. If I leave them undone, AI thinks I might still do them until the start of the next day so adaptions and predictions are not legit until they expire at midnight. When an unassociated activity is uploaded, TR now gives me the opportunity to say whether I will or won’t do the scheduled workout/activity.

They way I figure it, I add future races and Solo or Group rides to the calendar so the plan can be built accordingly, but once they’re done, all that matters is the activity data.

Hopefully TR will weight in and correct me where I’m wrong.

Same. In my mind, in addition to its plans, I pay for TR to sort out all the work I do and adapt appropriately.

I’ll associate and rides with a TR workout when correct. Outside of that TR can sort out if I skipped a workout, did a long race, etc. it’s all there in my data.

This is definitely an edge-case scenario, and I can’t think of any easy ways to move that ride over to Sunday.

Either way, I don’t see any major issues, though. I would just assume that at least the 10th would be red, and the 11th would likely be at least yellow. Ultimately, in these cases, you should start riding again when you feel up to the task, not when we tell you to.

One workaround that I can think of would be to remove the actual activity on the 8th from TrainerRoad AI and TSS, as shown in the image below, and then mark the planned activity on the 9th as complete. You could adjust the duration to get the TSS to match the actual activity as closely as possible, and then, in theory, things should behave as if your ride took place on the 9th.

Let me know if this makes sense and helps. :+1:

I think I may just try an easy ride today and see how I feel  Thanks for the input.

I think the bigger issue here is “who in their right mind does a 400km bike ride???”

I’m obviously joking … but I feel stressed just thinking about such an event! I doff my cap to you good sir

Thank you  I’d be lying if I’d say I did not question my life choices multiple times during the night riding at 0 °C. It’s those moment you remember I guess.

€: If you can force yourself to suffer through 2h of Sweet Spot riding, you can also noodle along for 400 km :joy:
