As way of background I am enrolled in a low volume GranFondo Masters plan with an A event in late October. I have been following the plan since Jan 2. I’ve been filling in the off days with either Z2, tempo, or recovery depending on how hard the training week is feeling and input from redlight/greenlight.
I’m about 2 weeks out from a two day event which I’m using for training for an A event in late October. The week of the event looks normal and as expected but this week (the week before) seems a little funky in that It’s mostly only selected one ride and the volume has taken a very sharp downturn. A normal tss cycle may go from a tss of 160 for rest to a peak of 740.
I actually find next week to be abnormal. I think this week would be fairly normal as a big recovery week to get you ready for the event, but next week puts rides really close and on the same day as the big event. I would expect you have nothing from the 4th.
Don’t know about the “B” events for the masters plans. TR usually starts the taper 2 weeks out for an “A” event. Master plans are geared for extra recovery. Maybe this is why a 2 week taper for a “B” event. I found them not very challenging compared to the old standard plans. I’m in my 70’s. If you think you’re not getting enough work and good on recovery, I would look at the original plans or go for a medium volume plan.
Thank you both for your insights. I actually specifically selected the masters plan as my tendency with the normal plan plus group rides ended up with me over trained somewhere in the season. Now granted maybe this is less of an issue now with adaptive training and RL/GL and something I will certainly consider for next years training.
If they’ve selected ‘openers’ its to be expected to have Cajon the day before a race. Because its two day race though, the one before the 2nd day isn’t needed.
Something funky is definitely up – we love Cajon, but we wouldn’t expect to see it on there that many times in the span of a couple of weeks.
I checked out your account and today’s (Aug. 28) ride was adapted to an Endurance session. I’m reporting this issue to our bug-hunting team so we can investigate what’s going on.
We’ll be in touch with you as we get this straightened out!
Our bug-hunting team got on this one and they were able to sort out your plan. Things should be looking better now (no more repeat Cajon sessions on there).
This week does still look a bit “easy” with all shorter Endurance sessions lined up for you. If you want some intensity, we’d recommend using TrainNow.
I am interested in what the “bug” was if you are able to share.
Saw the changes, noticed that TSS load is similar just stretched out into recovery rides. I will add additional load with outside rides and TrainNow if necessary.
It’s tough to say exactly what happened – the team reported that it seemed to be an issue with repeat opener workouts popping up before the race on your TR Calendar.
They “rebuilt” the plan for you by deleting it and reapplying your previous settings, which seems to have gotten your plan back in line.
