Collin Chartier Pro Triathlete banned for EPO, coach Mikal Iden 'in shock crying'

Ben Hoffman’s response (I don’t think anyone has lined to it yet). He really let loose, love it

We can do better as example(s). Take the Freeman tribunal. We now know more than one athlete at Team Sky had been using Testosterone (the PED). This was at the height of their success, in the pro peloton, where their supposedly the most tested athletes in the world.
Nothing happened. Zero positives. No one asks questions. Zero consequence.

Huh?

Yeah, odd post is odd. This is the type I flag for follow-up in a while, to see if it’s a spammer/bot making a placeholder post that gets edited later with junk links. Could be legit, but sure looks out of place to me.

His one other response is also weird. I’ll take with “He’s a bot” for $100 Alex.

Yup, saw that one too. Keeping an eye on this account for sure.

I think one way sports bodies could handle doper is: you get caught, you are banned for life. BUT you can cut your ban to 2 / 4 years for a 1st offense if you name everyone who helped you dope (knew you doped) and everyone / store / etc. that you got doping products from.

At the amateur level, I think they need an “open” category: you get a time, but no placing with no questions asked about doping / no restrictions. If someone my age (mid 50s) wants to “dope” / take “anti-aging drugs” and “compete”, then you do you. You just shouldn’t be able to get a placing. And then start drug testing the non-open categories.

After cycling blew up with Armstrong, I always thought it would be cool to have two cohorts competing: (1) clean teams and (2) anything goes teams. Have them compete in the same races simultaneously, fascinating to see gaps between clean and amp’d up competitors. Would be very engaging for audiences, lots to talk about for fans and the media around the sport. And would draw new and very interesting sponsors on both sides. And create a mechanism for athletes on both sides of the issue to compete vs. peers. As long as there an incentives to use performance enhancing drugs, lots and lots of athletes are going to use them. That’s just reality, human nature, so create a structure that accommodates it. On the clean teams, require massive bonds to be posted by all parties behind the drugged up athletes, so athletes, coaches, teams, sponsors and esp. their insurers underwriting the bonds would be motivated to be clean and build a sound testing regime.

That would have only legitimized doping, IMO….”wow, look at how much faster I can be. Hell yeah, give me the needle!”

Reminds me of the SNL skit from the 80’s about the “All Drug Olympics”

It’s not possible to get that money back. It can be easily hidden in offshore accounts.

Give the prize purse back.
I can’t. I spent it.
Ok. We will garnish your wages.
You can’t. Only a judge can do that.
Ok, we will have our lawyers pursue it.
Sounds good. Btw I will be in school for the next few years and then work in Europe or Costa Rica after that. Hope you’re still in business by then, especially since lawyers cost so much.

I understand it could be challenging to recover the purse. The language needs to be written into the registration, therefore it’s a contract you sign. It would simplify the arbitration.

The problem with the, “open category” is that it no longer gives those clowns an unfair advantage. They dope for an advantage because they believe it’s the only way to win. I assume they also try to cheat within all aspects of life.

Some do. But most middle aged dudes just want to feel younger. Most of them are nowhere close to winning. They do TRT but they also enjoy the sport. I agree with @AlphaDogCycling that there should be such a category. Been saying it for years. However, I disagree that it should be an official category because nobody needs that scarlet letter.
The category should be anonymous in the background. You line up as normal, you have a chip time, but your name doesn’t show up in the AG rankings and they skip over your name when doing awards.

I originally thought this, but having discussed it seriously with athletic coaches it would do so much harm to children it’s just inconceivable.

I believe that the children are our future.
We got to teach them well and let them lead the way. Very important to show all the love they possess inside. I mean, give them a sense of pride so it’s easier. Every time I hear their laughter, it reminds me of how we used to be.
