Brits' view on BBC sports personality of the year?

Maybe I read a different book, but he makes it very clear the reason he chose to race for Britain was the absolute disgrace that was (is?) the Kenyan federation.

I think it’s an outrage that Froome has never won this award, considering he won the Tour four times. Cavendish, Wiggins and now Thomas have been honored.

Anyway, I bet he doesn’t give a shit. After reading his biography I started admiring all his accomplishments and respect him a lot as an athlete. This BBC award doesn’t matter against all he has overcome to be at the top of the sport.

Yes, I agree the Kenyan cycling federation was rubbish, but that’s what I took from what he wrote. I actually found on reading his book I liked him less and less. I can respect him as a cyclist but I don’t admire him as others do.

SPOTY is just a popularity contest, and like all popularity contests they ultimately hold no intrinsic value or meaning.

Really? Could you explain why? I actually had a problem with his wins, being from Sky’s Death Star and all, but I found the details of his story really surprising, especially the very beginning. I knew of Kinjah, but loved the details and the stories of struggle early in his career, crashing into the official etc.
