Being Silly: Lawn Mowing TSS

Today, after mowing the lawn, I noticed Garmin Connect thinks I was on a 1:51:00 long bike ride. Does this count as an outdoor workout? How can I calculate the TSS? It was mostly endurance pace with several short hill repeats. Do I need to know my mowing FTP?

I cant wait to introduce TSS to the Gardener’s World forums!

joking aside, yard work does impact recovery. I think it can be significant some weeks.

I wonder if I should have posted this on the TrainerMow forums.

Not sure I get any TSS for this

It wouldn’t hurt to know your FTP but the tough part would be deciding which protocol to use…8 minutes or 20 minutes?

Is a self-propelled mower akin to an e-bike?

There’s a meme in there about road cyclists and a fear of disc brakes.

Fit a power meter to that, and you’re good to go!

you’re doing it wrong

standing-start lawn mower workouts need to be sets of Ronnestad 30-15s to truly be effective

even better if you do them barefoot

Ha ha.

my HR while cycling is usually 125-135. But when mowing the lawn, it is 145-155.

Maybe I need some Garmin lawnmower sensors to find out what is really going on.

I mow my lawn by RPE and comparing it to workout it is around 2h Z2 ride (let’s say 0.72 IF) with some low cadence work (petrol lawn mower without any propeller, and quite rough terrain). I treat is as a workout during my recovery weeks

Endurance mow today. Legs were too tired after a morning bike ride.

i used to push mow my lawn on sundays, i wondered how it was affecting recovery for the following week. so i decided to by a zero turn mower ,it used to take 2 hrs to push mow and edge now it takes 20 mins .lol
