Anyone know what Lionel Sanders is doing?

his LT2 is trained at the 2.5-3mmol range. So it’s a pretty easily recoverable threshold.

He’s also talked of threshold and says thats in the 4+mmol range and more like what he did for his hour record. But if he trains that way he is too reliant on sugars in long distance.

Would another option be to only change the training around lt1, but keep the high intensity training the same? Instead of also bringing down to lt2 more?

This would keep him relying heavily on glycolysis, so he’s careful to get into high lactate training periods

Adding to @Gnome excellent post, LS goal is to build a huge engine at this stage. A huge effiecient engine which relies more on fat. However, it has been reiterated several times by the Norwegians that the metbolic turnover (per week) is very imporant to them. High volume! High volume at intensities which are sustainable without breaking down. Therefore this strict intensity control. And at this level at-LT1/Aet is metabolically very demanding.

About a week ago someone asked him about intensity and volume. He’s training on average of 26hours per week, and didn’t have a day off for 6 weeks. Like you’re saying if you aren’t digging very deep you could carry on for days on end. In that 6 weeks he would recover and definitely feels like he would need to. The recovery day would be high volume (a couple hours) to our standards but it would easy enough that he could ride for a couple hours and feel great after.
