I’m pretty sure I will never hear from Strava about this. I got an automated email saying responses will be delayed due to high volume.
I see a KOM in the hidden efforts. As well as several top 10s.
Whew, I still seem to have my 2 pages KOMs in tact. Some could have disappeared though and I probably wouldn’t realize it.
Not quite as big a mountain but I just checked my KOM up the Col de Rates is still there.
In reality I am down to circa 21,600 though. I could probably do it faster now but I don’t think I could do it 12mins faster to reclaim the KOM
I quit caring because of the proliferation of eBikes in my area. At least on the uphills, they are just taking KOM’s everywhere. On downhills I can at least have a chance, but that’s totally different type of effort from uphill.
Though I also haven’t uploaded in months because of a car accident, I will start up again soon but mostly don’t care anymore.
They have their own ebike activity type. Just flag anything that’s in the wrong place!
They need a done in the back of an Ambulance category. I was knocked off in London 7 years ago after cycling 90miles from Peterborough I arrived early for the party so I went round the block, mistake! I was mostly OK thankfully but the paramedics wanted to check me out and put me and the bike in the back of the ambulance. After checking me out they gave me a lift back to the party. I then realised I had left my garmin on. It had recorded a 2nd and 4th place, not even a KOM which would have sent an ‘Uh Oh!’. It was before you were able to crop on a pc. So on the phone I titled it, ‘Ride finished in and ambulance and to be cropped to be cropped in two days time when I get back to a PC’. I got back on Monday only to find some sad b had already flag it
I used to do that. But I got tired of it. One of the segments (I was not KOM, just top 10 with a couple other pro’s) is all eBikes except the pro woman with 300+ watts for 20+ minute climb on a multi hour ride in the desert.
I am not the Strava police.
I think they’re removing segments - maybe that don’t get ridden very often. Just speculation of course.
There’s a particularly steep few climbs in my local area - one that I had a top 10 on that have vanished recently. They’re steep and probably don’t get ridden very often.
I had that issue. I had a few local KOMs in the south of France and then a Stage of Paris Nice went through there and my KOMs disappeared. How do I fix that XD?
It is good not having this problem as I own no KOM at all. Not one.
That KOM is back but I’m still missing all the others, I guess something changed on strava’s end (nice they let us know) and now I have to go find them all and change the privacy setting from followers to public.
They may be working on an algorithm to auto flag I read, but for now Strava relies on the community to both self-police and generate segments. Same as anything social, Twitter etc, impossible to expect them to hire people to manually check every post or ride, so we all do our part and they moderate.
Strava is defined by that really. I always flag dodgy stuff, and if I don’t someone else almost always spots it too. By the time I’ve lost a KOM and click though someone else has usually flagged it.
Pretty cool if you have a good proactive community in your area, but an algo will be great later though not without its issues.
The other issue could be who set the segment?
I can remember getting a KOM locally when I went out to test tyres/brakes and just rode rather randomly round the neighbourhood, several loops of the estate and a few odd turnings, and then went further afield. When I uploaded the ride I got a KOM from someone who had set the segment as 4 loops of a roundabout and a road.
About a week later the person had deleted the segment, or maybe made it private? and so my KOM disappeared as well.
I found one that had been flagged as being in a vehicle, I un-flagged it but the KOM hasnt come back yet. https://www.strava.com/activities/188988429
So I started a ticket and they responded that there was no problem that they were all there. I checked and suddenly they are all back.
I’ve never understood the people that make a convoluted segment so that, pretty much, they will be the only person that will ever get the KOM. I once found a guy that had created 5 or 6 segments like this. I got one by mistake and then I stole another one of his on purpose.
I make segments on my go to rides so I can compare times over time…may not be the route others take but it is for my information.
I mean super convoluted and impractical routes where the only goal seems to be getting a KOM.
