Any specific guidelines on how tapering before an event?

Is there a specific guideline for when you should do a week taper vs two? Coach Chad on the podcast often mentions a one or two week taper and I was curious when you would do a week taper vs a two week taper.

Long story short, I have a couple of weeks buffer in my training plan that I might not end up needing and was wondering if it’s better to taper for two weeks before my event (100mi fondo) or if I should just do one week and use that extra week for another week of higher level training.

Any tips/suggestions?
