AiFTP recommending a 28% jump — go with it or manually step up?

After a 7-year break and some fits and starts over the last year, I’m finally back at it consistently.

My initial FTP was 94W, and after a few weeks AiFTP is now recommending 120W in 6 days — a 28% jump. My question: should I accept it, or manually step my FTP up over time (say, in 10W increments)?

My experience over the past year is that large jumps like this tend to lead pretty quickly to burnout — even when I’ve been honest and accurate on the post-ride surveys. I’ve seen a few threads where people have taken the manual approach instead, and I’m curious to hear others’ opinions, insights, and experiences before I decide.

I would expect the increase and see how the workouts feel.

If after the first week the workouts feel to hard then I would manually drop down the AIFTP to maybe half of the increase was.

They’ve redesigned the system massively since 7 year back to avoid burn out, I’d go with it and answer following surveys honestly. It’ll soon update future workouts if the system thinks the workout are too hard for you; specifically to avoid burn out. There’s also the RLGL feature, which will scale back or remove workouts if your load is too high. PS what it predicts and actually detects in 6 days time can be quite a bit different because of bugs in the beta software. What it actually detects will be right for you.

I’d definitely accept the new FTP and give things a shot.

Let me know how it goes!
