AI training should I keep at it or revert?

I’ve had a lot of time off the bike this year due to health issues. Hopefully everything is finally sorted out, and I’m back to riding consistently.

I’ve been letting the AI build my training plan, but so far I’m not impressed. I have it set to Aggressive, yet most weeks out of six riding days I get one red day, three yellow days, and two of those are only 30-minute rides. At this rate, I don’t see how I’m going to improve my fitness.

I’m in my third week now, and I’m guessing my FTP is underestimated because nearly every workout feels easy. Will the AI eventually adapt and increase the training load, or should I give up on it?

I’m also wondering if my age is influencing the plan. I’m 62, and in previous years I’d typically ride around 10,000 miles annually, including several bikepacking races.

If you’re returning from a break, fatigue detection will spam you with warnings until your 6 week tss catches up to what you’re doing.

If you’re finding workouts too easy, and the system isn’t adjusting fast enough, just start adding a standard percentage increase to every ride. The AI should adjust every 28 days, but if you increase fitness too fast within that period (such as when returning from break) it can break things a little.

Welcome back to training!

@roflsocks is right that we’ll be a bit cautious with your progression if you’re starting from an average of 0 TSS, and 6 days of workouts is a lot to jump into.

We will lengthen your leash as you continue to get work in, and keep in mind that the red and yellow days are suggestions, and there are ways around them if you’re confident that what you’re doing is sustainable.

You can stop Fatigue Detection from automatically swapping your workouts, or turn it completely off (I’d recommend the first option) in your account settings.

Another thing to know is that we do currently have a bug that affects athletes who do their workouts outside. Some athletes report volatility with FTP Predictions and workouts being too easy. This is the company’s top focus at the moment, and we hope to have a fix out very soon. For now, you can use Workout Alternates to find workouts that better fit your abilities, or simply adjust your effort during your workouts to get the right stimulus.

We’ll have an update on this soon.

Sorry for the trouble!

Let me know if you have any questions.
