Advice Needed: Replacing one ride per week with Intervals in Traditional Base Mid Volume I

Hi everyone,

I just started the Traditional Base Mid Volume I training plan, which is primarily focused on four Zone 2 rides per week. I’d like to replace one of these sessions with an interval workout each week to add a bit more intensity.

My main questions are:

  1. Which ride is best to replace with intervals each week? Is there a specific day or ride within this plan that’s more suitable for swapping with an intervals session?
  2. How should I choose the intervals workout? Should I aim to target a specific zone (like Sweet Spot or Threshold)?

For now, I plan to do these workouts outside. I’d love any advice on how to approach this in a way that complements the base training and adds 1 intense workout per week.

I would say any day following a day with no workout.

TrainNow could be a useful tool for this. You are presented with three different options of workouts to choose from: Climbing, Attacking and Endurance.

You could also search for a suitable workout in the plentiful TR catalogue using it’s filtering capabilities.
