Adding volume with dans/lazy mtn

Hey,

Has anyone here ever added 2-3 30-45 minute low endurance (dans, lazy mountain) rides to a low volume plan (3 workouts a week) and seen benefits? Would this be a safe/productive way to add volume?

I haven’t done that, but yes. Adding z2 volume is a good idea, especially on the LV plan.

Those are excellent for recovery and fat burning, but I think power gains will be limited after doing them for a few weeks since they’re borderline Z1.

Those are recovery rides, and I doubt you’d see much of any adaptations.

I think you’d be better off with Petit, Baxter…etc, something more like .65 IF for an hour (or whatever you can afford to do). They won’t be fatiguing enough to effect your intervals, but they’ll require some pressure on the pedals and make you work a little bit aerobically.

And yes…adding z2 volume to any plan can be highly beneficial.

Thanks for the info and suggestions. How does Baxter at the beginning of the week and recovery ride at the end of the week sound?

I’d be more inclined to add just one ride per week with an IF ~ 0.65. Start at a lower duration of time and keep lengthening it each week. 1 longer easy ride will give you much more benefit than 2 or 3 short easy rides.
