This is amazing, I was frightened watching it!
Now that’s a road I want to ride!
30 mph sign… ticket is in the mail.
Seriously though… nice ride!
To give you some kind of indication of how good Safa is. He holds the KOM on a local super technical descent that has been attempted by 6,500 riders. I’m ranked 30th. In the video below I hit 52mph. I did it in just under 5 min. Safa did it in 4:20. That’s more than 15% faster.
That’s nuts, the road surface doesn’t look particularly good either.
Can you share the link to the Strava segment? To me, that’s impressive and terrifying.
Incredible! Can’t help but wonder if he would have gone even faster with deeper wheels, aero helmet, and a haircut.
that guys has b@lls of steel.
There’s two. My video is the whole descent which includes some small pinch climbs. The times I referenced pertained to the one way section, hence why we’re drifting all over the road. Tuna One Way Down.
It has its moments.
Just comfort level. I tried a friends bike with those deep wheels and I was terrified withhow twitchy the front end was with cross winds
Safa is completely mental
I’d advise against 80mph through the desert though https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/french-rider-almost-paralysed-after-crashing-at-130kmh-in-speed-record-attempt
That’s a cool part of the country - Alabama Hills and Mt Whitney. Been in a lot of movies.
Yawn! If that guy were really serious, he’d cut his hair. Can you imagine the aero drag of his golden mane at 70+ km/h?!?
I came here to say this!
I always feel like I’m watching the Grizzly Man documentary when I watch this guys videos … one day I’ll be watching a new video … the next day no more new videos…
Have you seen his Mexico City riding in traffic videos???……
He’s been decending Tuna Canyon (the Video I posted above) with Tom piddock a bunch over the past couple of weeks. Tom beat my PR by a handful of seconds within a few attempts. The only saving grace I thought I had was he was following Safa down. I checked a few days later and Tom knocked another 30 seconds off. This is on a descent that took me 5 min. for reference 5 min would get you top 30ish out of 6500 riders. Both of them are insanely talented and a tad bit nuts.
Tuna Canyon is an insane descent! Pretty much just like any of those SoCal Mountain descents! You’ve got SO many heavy hitters over there, plus all the pros who come into town to train in the winter. I can’t even imagine being top 30 on ANY Strava segment in that area! Brian is in a league of his own in terms of crazy descending.
