Curious what combo everyone is running for the TT100 event. It’ll be hot and dusty… I’ve ridden the event twice with different tires (1st yr Schwalbe Racing Ralph/ Ray combo- had two flats; 2nd yr Kenda Booster Pro). This year, I’m considering either the Kenda Rush 2.4 SCT or Maxxis Rekon Race.
The new course looks much more difficult! My mountain bike has been out of commission for the last month so I haven’t fully ridden the new version (had to replace the bearings and the SRAM AXS battery pin issue finally struck me).
@Jonathan talked about this years course at the end of the recent nutrition podcast so that’s worth listening too.
There was a switchback section with incredibly deep dust. There was no technical section just a bit of rocks. There was a 40 minute climb that was brutal. Finished in 3:55:00 with a porta potty break as a 17yo. Pretty solid course
Yes they shortened it. It was probably the right call so everyone could finish on time, but they definitely could run three laps if people know what they are getting into.
I enjoyed the course, It had a good combination of singletrack climb/descent fireroad. I do wish there was less fireroad descens, but might be unavoidable. I had heard it was in rough shape a few weeks ago. There were definitely a couple of spots that were just torn up. those switchbacks mentioned and a that couple of sections of fire road descent that was torn up by logging trucks.
I ran 2.4 rekon race maxxspeed in front and 2.4 vittoria peyote rear, absolutely banger combo, so much fun. I wouldn’t trust a peyote front in that kitty litter. I did crash really hard, but it was my fault. I pumped into what I thought was berm, but it was Kitty litter that just evaporated on contact and I went over the bars at 20mph. I ran the course blind so, comes with the territory.
I don’t know if I got these courses right, but red should be 2025 (meant to be 1 or 3 laps), and blue was 2024 and earlier course (1 or 2 laps).
I’d heard things like they wanted to add more single track, but also that they had to keep its within the Northstar boundaries. Anything said at the event?
I’d been reading a few racers Strava comments on their pre-rides this week, and they were pretty brutal in their reviews of the new course. Previously, TT100 had seemed a course where a hardtail wasn’t much of a disadvantage, would you say the 2025 course is now more towards the full-sus end of the spectrum? (Assuming it is possible, I’m heading up to post-ride the course in the next week, and my only mtb is a hardtail with 2.35’s).
TT100 was to be my a-race for 2025 and getting back into events, but family commitments ended those hopes. It’ll be interesting what 2026 course will be, as likely it’s my 2026 a-race.
Oh, and 3:55, that’s a smoking fast time, great effort.
Yea, I saw those too, but I think they cleaned up a lot of the course. Full suspension is definitely the right bike, for both climbs and descents, but you can do it on hardtail, and many people did.
FYI some sections you wont be able to ride if the bike park is open, as it goes up downhill trails. so to go on a day it’s closed, or plan the detour around the first climb.
Thanks, I don’t know these trails, but one of the Strava pre-ride comments was about it going up a or some downhill trails. I’ll just adapt my route and follow the course as best I can.
Still really interested in what they do for 2026. If they lost the rights to run the race outside of Northstar’s area, then I’m not sure what options they really have.
A full suspension with 2.4 tires is the best option, as it is very bumpy in the flat sections and descents. You would get really bad rear wheel grip, power transfer, pedaling efficiency, and potential comfort issues on a hardtail, which would just mess up your race for everything but that 45-minute climb. Without the bathroom break and better pacing, I think 3:45 would be attainable. There were no descents where a hardtail is needed to clear technical sections. I used the schwalbe ricks but they were lacking in grip through the super loose deep dust and they are heavy tires but I don’t really know what else I would want to run, maybe dubnitals if the knobs are taller than ricks.
Thanks for the info. I’m going to forgo the plan to ride a pure 2025 lap, and instead do some hybrid of 2024 and 2025 for a big ride to get a feel for the trails/area.
