I came back to TR about a month ago after letting my membership lapse. Mainly because it didn’t satisfy my personal cycling venn diagram of what I needed on an online platform.
Once I got back on however…after almost a year off…holy crap!
I’ll just start with the UX. I don’t feel as though anyone appreciates how unbelievably tight the UX is on the forum alone. I don’t know if its a white label from another company but the graphical experience/ tracking/ clarity of format all by itself is a world beating application.
The workouts are tight. As they always have been. And while it might not be your cup of tea to have text on your screen, “The Chad” (sorry dude, that’s your name now) talking you through the workout and elements of style is a huge differentiator. Sufferfest runs similarly but its not as well integrated.
Trainer control is OUTSTANDING. On a NEO the power transitions and smoothing are the very best I have ever used in ERG mode. Even from Tacx themselves.
The calendar and PMC elements are the cleanest I’ve seen in the industry. Zwift non-world interfaces still look like a Fisher Price ‘My First Bike Inside Ride’.
I don’t know what the deal is w/ people down talking outside workouts, but I bought a 530 a few weeks ago JUST to do the outside workouts w/o having to recreate every workout in TP. They are very well executed and run perfectly on the head units. Pausing the workout would be nice, though.
I could go on about how there is also a 360deg approach to the value proposition with Nate and others interacting directly on the forum, the podcast and videos on youtube…I don’t know how you couldn’t justify 20/month for this. (and i know, the videos/podcast are open to all…but still, they often speak directly to the use of the platform, which is valuable).
If you just want to ride bikes with buddies, yeah you do not need any of this at ALL. If you want a video game, yeah you need to look elsewhere. But if you want what TR has available these days I respectfully disagree with the esteemed Ray of Amsterdam (@dcrainmaker), there is no place where you can get a one stop shop of what TR offers.
I think what the problem may be is that most serious cyclists have 2-4 subscriptions (zwift/TR/TP being the most common) and for many the price change may make them contemplate dropping one of those services? Maybe?
Anyway, I feel as though the price is worth it. But maybe a bit more of a heads up next time?
