Sounds like he really likes the live data feedback and TrainerRoad controlling his trainer. What is it about TrainerRoad that keeps you engaged and training consistently? I’ve always thought that the interface is nice but the plans keep people engaged for the long run. Lately, for me, seeing the weekly TSS graph on my career page has helped me stay motivated. And the Tour of Sufferlandria of course.

My only regret is that I didn’t sign up for TrainerRoad months ago. I LOVE it!!
Virtual Power is killer. I don’t have to think about what, how, why I’m working out – just have to keep in the green. And the plans – once you commit – are great – get up, mount up and do what you’re told. Doesn’t get easier than that. And I have to admit putting TR in horizontal and watching Netflix is priceless.
All of it. Yves is completely right, the virtual power and training plans are exactly what I needed to get enthusiastic about training for cycling again. I just transitioned from my first training plan (Intermediate Build I) to Advanced Low Volume Competitor, and I’m loving them. I actually look at my evening workout while I’m at work and I’m enthusiastic about riding on the trainer…wtf?
