TrainerRoad now allows Garmin Connect™ users to automatically export their training files.
When you connect your TrainerRoad account with Garmin Connect™, all your future completed indoor workouts will automatically export and be viewable on Garmin Connect.
How to Automatically Sync Your TrainerRoad Rides to Garmin Connect
- Log into TrainerRoad to access your Account Profile.
- Select “Ride Sync” from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Click the option to “Connect with Garmin.”
- Authorize TrainerRoad to access your Garmin Connect account by selecting “Agree & Connect.”
Important Things to Know
Your past TrainerRoad rides will not be synced. Once Garmin Connect is connected, all your future completed rides will automatically sync to your account.
If you have not set your timezone in Garmin Connect, your ride will show up under the default UTC date/time. You can manually edit the date/time in Garmin Connect by selecting Account Settings >Display Preferences >Upload Time Zone Setting.
If you’ve been offline for a week or more and you have a bunch of completed rides queued up, there’s a chance some rides may not sync over to Garmin. This is because we’re limited to sending 10 workouts/day per user. If you run into this situation, contact us.
If you have questions about syncing your workouts to Garmin Connect, get in touch with our support team at support@trainerroad.com.

Yes!! Thanks for bringing in this feature!
Great News! Hopefully there will be the possiblity to have the TR workouts on Garmin Hardware via Garmin Connect also someday…
I concur that this would be awesome, and something I’m really hoping TrainerRoad does some day.
Great! Now if the workouts are already going to TrainingPeaks and Strava directly from TR, will this have them sync 2X into TP and Strava (once from TrainerRoad and once from Garmin)? Anybody try this already?
I’m wondering the same as you Sam…
Sam & Jeff,
No duplicates. 🙂 It’ll just show the one workout if they are both synced.
Cheers!
Hi Nick,
This used to work for me but now I’m getting both in Strava.
How do I make it stop?!
CBH
Hey Chris,
I would recommend reaching out to our Support Team at support@trainerroad.com to get this sorted out. The process should still be the same in that duplicates are filtered out, but support may be able to look into your ride files to see what could be causing this duplication.
Cheers!
Now if we can only get outdoor rides to sync to TR.
So that a weeks workout/TSS scores etc include outside rides.
G
You read our minds, George. Working on it! 🙂
It’s been a looong time coming, and this should be the number one feature priority, IMO. Right now most of the history and analytics in TR just isn’t that useful for those of us who ride both indoor and outdoors. Even a free-form field to add TSS when marking a workout as “Outdoor” would be better than the current situation.
It’s been mentioned for so long as an upcoming feature, and one that I’m anxiously looking for also. I really don’t want to sign up for yet another service – I use TR and Strava now, I’d have to pay for TrainingPeaks and sync there I guess just to have all of my data and a meaningful TSS number all in one place.
I know TR won’t release a half-baked solution though, and I’m certain that pulling the necessary info from various sources isn’t an easy task. I’d rather wait than see them just import Strava info (for example) after my power/ride data has been sanitized by Strava’s ‘lovely’ algorithms and be left with inaccurate info now inside TR.
“I know TR won’t release a half-baked solution though, and I’m certain that pulling the necessary info from various sources isn’t an easy task.”
Definitely not a fan of half-baked solutions. At the same time, just having an option to enter TSS manually for Outside rides would get you about 95% of the way there. Strava already computes that number, and it’s displayed on the ride statistics panel on the ride overview for every ride. Right now the TR Training Stress graph and weekly breakdown is worse than useless if you ride outdoors at all.
Syncing TR data to all sorts of external systems is nice and all, but you’d think TR would concentrate on getting their own house in order rather than adding value to their competitors. 🙂
Ian & Wayne,
Thanks for the feedback fellas! Rest assured we have all hands on deck to bring all sorts of awesomeness down the pipeline, including bringing outdoor workout data into the TR training ecosystem. It’s going to be rad. 🙂
We don’t want to throw any hard ETAs out there, but we are still chugging along. Like Wayne mentioned, we want to uphold our standard in this release and look forward to delivering on that for everyone.
Thanks for your guys patience and continued support. Happy Training!
+1 to this!
Not 100% sure why a one way sync like this makes sense. If you have connect.garmin.com account your ride will allready be on Garmin via your device sync. Am I missing something?
Some of us don’t use Garmin devices when we’re doing trainer rides (I do on outdoor rides so it’s not an issue). Adding automatic support is awesome. I currently have to manually send the workout to GC when I’ve finished my workout. Big Kudos!
Does this mean I can now complete my trainer road workouts with my Garmin, outside?
Still nope.
Working on it, Brent!
Awesome! No more download and manual upload!
Awesome! Now I won’t have to use my Garmin on the trainer. Love it. Keep up the good work.
* Still waiting on screenshot to Strava. That would be nice 🙂
This is fantastic and a huge time saver. I’ve had to manage my rides in Garmin by manually importing the downloaded file from TrainerRoad. Huge win! Whoohoo!
Will there be the same possibility to polar flow soon? ☺
No plans at the moment. Sorry Staffan!
Hi Nick
Anything has changed in that matter?
Thanks,
Jan
Hey Jan,
Unfortunately there are still no plans for Polar Flow support 🙁
Rather than uploading workouts to Garmin Connect, which is not useful to me as I record in parallel with my Garmin watch to get additional stats, will it instead be possible to pull the athlete’s weight from the Garmin profile into TrainerRoad? As I also use a Garmin WiFi scale, this would avoid having to set my weight manually in TrainerRoad.
We don’t have anything in the works for this. :/ Some sort of smart scale integration would be cool though, but we have quite a few other awesome tasks that we think will make you a faster cyclist before we explore other new features. 🙂
Stay tuned…Happy Training!
I already use my Garmin 1000 to record the workout in conjunction and it pushes to all my 3rd party apps…when we have the ability to upload our outdoor rides to trainerroad and there’s analytics, I will ditch most of my other training apps…love the product by the way
Thanks for the feedback David!
Stay tuned…Happy Training!
We are really looking for how to sync your scheduled workouts so we can do them outside….
Nicholas,
We currently don’t have plans to support syncing workouts to a head-unit. Sorry for any inconvenience!
One of the biggest barriers we see that gets in the way of this is the ability to get an effective, structured workout in out on the road. It can be tough with all the distractions out there! But we created an article that provides some tips on striking a good balance with trying to take some of your workouts outside; feel free to have a read: http://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/204265814-Outdoor-Workout-Substitutions-Q-A
Hope this helps… Happy Training!
I just moved away from Garmin to Wahoo. Any plans to have the same feature for Wahoo?
Sadly we do not have any plans at this time, however you may be able to daisy chain your accounts by exporting from TrainerRoad to Strava and then from Strava to Wahoo if that is an option 🙂
Thanks Bryce. I do have all of them going to Strava, I don’t publish all my Strava rides so I wanted one area to track them all. Strava doesn’t upload to Wahoo yet either.
Awesome !! This is working…. thanks.
Any plan for polar flow? Maybe 2019?
Can I get get my outside runs to synce to TrainerRoad I use a garmin935 watch which synes to garmin connect
Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to pull in runs and swims into TrainerRoad. This is something that we would like to integrate in the future, however, we do not have an estimated time frame at the moment.
If you’d like to learn more about our plans and stance on this feature, or if you’d like to comment to show your support, you can check out the official feature request thread here:

Do you send training effect to garmin connect? TSS and IF? So Garmin can calculate my training effect?
We send the raw power data to Garmin, and they calculate the TSS and IF of the workout based on the FTP you have saved within Garmin Connect. So you will want to be sure to keep your FTPs the same between Garmin and TrainerRoad so that all of your TSS data matches up 🙂
